Control for Paid Road Fees
The control of proper use of the paid road network, time-based and distance-based tolling, and the payment of road fees is carried out through the Electronic Toll Collection System.
The Electronic Toll Collection System includes stationary control gantries and mobile enforcement vehicles, which automatically detect vehicle license plate numbers and verify, via the central electronic system, whether the applicable toll has been duly paid
All vehicles using the toll road network are obligated to pay the corresponding road fee, as determined by their technical specifications and the applicable tariff. The system records a violation if the vehicle does not have a valid vignette or route pass, or an operational on-board unit for automatic tolling, or if the unit is inactive and does not transmit real-time location data.
The control over the lawful use of the toll road network is carried out by the National Toll Administration (BG TOLL), the Traffic Police (KAT), and the Customs Agency.
