Variable vehicle parameters to be declared by the on-board unit:
- The current number of axles of an attached trailer
- Current total weight of the tractor + trailer
The total toll amount due is based on the distance that a vehicle or combination of vehicles travels on a toll road and a toll per EURO cent per kilometer applies, which includes a share for air pollution, noise pollution and infrastructure costs.
The current toll can be found here: https://www.toll-collect.de/en/toll_collect/bezahlen/maut_tarife/p1745_mauttarife_07_2024.html
Toll-exempt vehicles may be included in a list of exceptions maintained by the Toll Charger in Germany (Toll Collect). When a vehicle is included in the Toll Collect list, it does not need an on-board device for this charging area. Vehicles included in the list of exceptions are listed for a maximum of two years, then they need to apply for an extension. Information on Toll Collect requirements for including a vehicle in a list of exceptions can be found here: https://www.tollcollect.de/en/toll_collect/rund_um_die_maut/mautbefreiung/mautbefreiung.html
The control of the toll payment in Germany is carried out automatically and uses control gantries.
