Automatic tolling in France

In France, a toll is paid for vehicles with more than 3.5 tonnes of gross weight and charged using DSRC-based technology on French motorways and major bridges and tunnels.

The toll in France includes the entire network of toll areas in the TIS-PL system ('Télépéage Inter-Société poids lours') and their respective toll operators. Variable vehicle parameters to be declared by the on-board unit:

• Trailer axles - updated according to the trailer attached to the tractor. The number of axles of the combination shall also be established and checked by equipment installed along the road network

In France, due to the nature of tolls and multiple toll operators, VAT is charged for some toll areas and for others not. The VAT where applicable, is 20%.
